We are looking for an experienced R&D Character Technical Artist to develop, maintain and optimize high quality Animation Rigging workflows that can be used through the company. Closely communicating with various development teams, the role requires the ability to understand issues from both an art and technology perspective, in order to flexibly create new tools and pipelines. The ideal candidate needs to be a team player, curious of new technology, and passionate about continuously improving processes.
・Work directly with Character and Animation teams to rsearch, design, create, test, and maintain high quality animation rigs, systems, setups, and workflow.
・Act as an intermediary between the animation and programming teams to determine the workflows and needs of each team.
・Develop new techniques and processes to solve character production challenges.
・Set up technical animation/simulation setups for things such as hair and cloth for real-time in-engine or for animation within Maya.
・Create pipeline tools to streamline the setup process and improve the art pipeline between the game engine and Maya.
・Edit and improve existing character animation systems, including facial setups and animation transfer tools.
・Collaborate with external development partners, including outsourcing, in the development of asset pipelines and maintain quality control
・Document pipeline and tools development processes.
Purpose and appeal
The Advanced Technology Division is an expert set that is active at the front line of game technology, across the fields of rendering, animation, physics simulation, artificial intelligence (AI), networking, big data, workflow, virtual reality (VR) and sound. The senior rigger shall also be able to develop his/her career and skills as they closely interacts with veterans of all disciplines in a state of the art environment, as we adapt existing workflows to novel needs.
Required Skills & Experience
・5+ years production experience designing, creating and supporting complex character and facial rigs (in film or game environments), as well as MEL and Python scripting and a comprehensive understanding of all technical aspects of Maya animation.
・In-depth knowledge of Maya.
・Expert knowledge of MEL and Python scripting as it applies to character setup and animation.
・Strong understanding of both Figure and Facial Anatomy.
・Understanding of animation techniques for the purpose of proactive problem solving and trouble shooting.
・Understanding of the entire process of creating cinematics including set construction, camera setup, character blocking, character animation, motion capture, cloth simulation, animation troubleshooting, and ensuring that scenes run properly on the real-time game engine.
・Experience setting up production pipelines, while being able to follow guidelines.
・Experience building tools to improve animation, rigging and / or character pipelines.
・Good understanding of real time animation systems and game console constraints.
・Experience using motion capture systems.
Desirable skills & experience
・Experience using Physics systems (NCloth, etc.)
・Key frame animation experience
・Ability to communicate in Japanese
