Job summary
We are recruiting a Mechanical/CAD Engineer who has strong practical experience in mechanical design and FEM-driven engineering workflows to verify design fitness.
You will collaborate closely with process engineers - especially those working in vacuum and cryogenic environments - to translate process and equipment requirements into robust mechanical designs. Your role includes the end‑to‑end design lifecycle, from concept to vendor interaction and procurement.
Job description
You will connect process engineering requirements (vacuum, cryogenic, mechanical) with detailed mechanical designs and perform FEM simulations to verify structural and thermal integrity, ensuring compliance with material and process constraints. By developing CAD models using professional tools such as Autodesk Inventor or Fusion, you will design vacuum components and assemblies including appropriate flanges, gaskets, and material selections.
Furthermore, you will support the design-lifecycle through collaboration with external vendors, including preparation of technical specifications and review of supplier documentation and you will ensure alignment with relevant codes and standards (e.g., PED, ASME BPVC).
Essential requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related science/engineering discipline
- More than 5 years of experience as mechanical/CAD Engineer
- Experience with CAD tools like Autodesk Inventor/Fusion and quality checkers
- Experience with software-driven design, like FEM simulations of mechanical and/or thermal stresses, and adaptation of the design to meet the process and material requirements (yield stresses etc.)
- Experience with review cycles and workflows of CAD data management
- Curiosity about new technologies and diverse industry knowledge with a proactive approach to learning
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft products (Excel, Word etc.)
Desirable requirements
- Experience with engineering and design of cryogenic systems (<50 K)
- Experience with nuclear fusion and tritium-compatible design of components
- Experience with hydrogen safety regulation and design implications
- Experience with Codes and Standards like PED, ASME BPVC
- Experience with vendor interaction and procurement (technical specifications, etc.)
- Experience working in cross-departmental and cross-cultural teams
