Job summary

We are recruiting an Electrical Instrumentation and Control Engineer who, as a process engineer, has assembled significant experience in instrumentation and control.

You are able to understand the requirements of the process on the instrumentation and also select the instrumentation itself. You will support the design, integration and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for small‑scale and experimental process setups. Your role bridges process engineering requirements with practical electrical and instrumentation solutions - covering everything from engineering design to hardware procurement, controlling cabinet development, and PLC programming. The role can be executed by either an engineer or a technician, in both cases with experience using industrial standard equipment. You will work closely with other process engineers to understand system requirements and ensure seamless integration of sensors, actuators, and control hardware into cohesive, compliant control systems.

Job description

You will design and specify instrumentation for small‑scale or experimental systems, including sensors (analogue 4–20 mA, 0–10 V, digital), actuators, valves, motor drives, electrical heaters, etc.

In addition, you will develop system integration concepts ensuring compatibility with overall control architecture and create I&C documentation such as wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, and control logic descriptions.

Your tasks will include control cabinet & electrical engineering, the selection of industrial‑standard components and the preparation of technical drawings and panel layouts. You will ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and standards and develop technical specifications for hardware procurement (PLCs, controllers, HMIs, power supplies, cabling, instrumentation).

Furthermore, you will review vendor proposals and perform technical comparisons and you will integrate industrial communication protocol (Profibus and others).

Essential requirements

• More than 5 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering
• Proven experience designing I&C systems for small-scale or experimental engineering setups
• Demonstrated understanding of safety and regulatory compliance (CE, LVD, EMC)
• Experience with technical procurement and vendor management
• Curiosity about new technologies and diverse industry knowledge with a proactive approach to learning
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft products (Excel, Word etc.)

Desirable requirements

• Experience with nuclear fusion and tritium-compatible design of components
• Experience with hydrogen safety regulation and design implications
• Experience designing electrical systems according to North American codes and standards (UL, CSA)
• Familiarity with advanced controls and automation systems
• Experience in R&D environments or pilot‑scale process development
