As an Environmental Control System Development Engineer at SkyDrive, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and optimization of advanced environmental control systems for our eVTOL aircraft. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to ensure the seamless integration of environmental control systems, ensuring the comfort, safety, and efficiency of our aircraft operations.

Details

- Lead the conceptualization, design, and architecture of environmental control systems for eVTOL aircraft, considering factors such as cabin pressurization, temperature control, humidity management, and air quality.
- Identify, evaluate, and select components, including air conditioning units, compressors, heat exchangers, filters, and sensors, ensuring compatibility, performance, and reliability.
- Conduct detailed analysis, simulation, and testing to optimize the performance and efficiency of environmental control systems, maximizing energy efficiency while meeting regulatory requirements and operational needs.
- Collaborate with aerodynamics, avionics, propulsion, and structural engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of environmental control systems into the overall aircraft design, considering weight, space, and aerodynamic considerations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards and certifications, including JCAB, FAA, and other international airworthiness regulations, through thorough testing, documentation, and validation.
- Contribute to the development and testing of prototypes and experimental systems, iterating design concepts based on real-world performance data and feedback.
- Identify potential risks and challenges associated with environmental control system development and implementation, proactively implementing mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, test plans, reports, and technical documentation, to support regulatory submissions, certification processes, and knowledge transfer within the organization.

Essential Skills

- Proven experience (5 years plus) in the design, development, and optimization of environmental control systems for aerospace applications, preferably eVTOL or rotorcraft.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) for system design and integration.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, ANSYS) and data analysis techniques.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as FAR Part 25, RTCA DO-160, and MIL-STD-810.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing technical challenges.

Desirable Skills

- Prior experience with electric or hybrid propulsion systems and familiarity with thermal management techniques for electrified aircraft.
- Experience with rapid prototyping, testing, and validation methodologies
- Demonstrated experience in using CFD software tools.
- Proficiency in setting up, running, and post-processing CFD simulations for complex fluid flow and heat transfer phenomena.
- Familiarity with modeling techniques for turbulent flows, multiphase flows, and heat transfer in aerospace applications.
- Ability to interpret and communicate CFD simulation results effectively to multidisciplinary teams, guiding design decisions and optimization strategies.
