Company Introduction

Since our founding in 2008, Axelspace has been driven by the vision “Space within Your Reach.” We have continuously refined our unique micro-satellite technology with the goal of democratizing space technology to a wider population across the globe.

AxelGlobe started in 2019 to provide a new Earth observation infrastructure by launching multiple micro-satellites for its higher data frequency. In addition to a satellite launched in 2019, we have successfully launched Japan’s first four mass-produced satellites in 2021. We are currently operating a constellation of five Earth observation satellites, capturing images with a 55 km swath every 2 to 3 days, and providing data and solutions.

Building on our experience with our dedicated satellite business, we launched AxelLiner in 2022 to provide a one-stop service for satellite development and operation, helping customers quickly actualize their satellite business. In 2024, we launched our first demonstration satellite, “PYXIS,” bringing our total number of developed and operated satellites to 11.

Additionally, we received the highest award, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award at the 22nd JAPAN VENTURE AWARDS in 2022, and was selected as part of “Technology Fast 50 2023 Japan” in 2023.

本ポジションでは、複数の衛星コンステレーションの地上システムを支えるデータベース・インフラを中心に、ソフトウェアプロジェクトの開発・保守を担うソフトウェアエンジニア（データベース）を募集しています。
業務を行う上で、ソフトウェア開発、アーキテクチャ、ソフトウェアエコシステムにおけるデータベースの役割、データベースのパフォーマンスチューニング、自動化、および運用の信頼性に関する知識が求められます。
業務では、衛星運用を可能にする社内ソフトウェアの開発、運用、改善に携わっていただきます。
衛星運用システム（SOS）は、リアルタイムの衛星通信、衛星への自動タスク割り当て、データのダウンリンク、後処理、およびすべてのコンポーネントを記録・相互接続するデータベースなど、多岐にわたる要素で構成されているため、地上システムエンジニア、クラウドチーム、その他のソフトウェアチームのメンバーと密接に連携し、運用の改善・効率化、および最適なソフトウェアプラクティスの導入を行っていただきます。
以上のことから、実務作業を伴う部門横断的な役割であり、大きな裁量権とアーキテクチャへの影響力を持つことができます。

職務内容

• データベース運用:
  • 既存および開発中の複数の衛星コンステレーションを支えるデータベースの管理、監視、および最適化。
• 自動化とモニタリング
  • 運用を自動化するためのツールやダッシュボードを開発し、パフォーマンスを監視。データベース・インフラの課題や脆弱性を未然に特定。
• テストと検証
  • 他の地上システムエンジニアと協力し、データベース、ソフトウェアコンポーネント、統合パイプラインのテスト戦略を設計・実施。地上システムエコシステム全体における信頼性、パフォーマンス、一貫性を確保。
• システムアーキテクチャ
  • データフローの設計、スキーマ構造、およびデータベースとシステム内の他のコンポーネント間の相互作用に関するアーキテクチャ設計。
• 環境管理
  • クラウドインフラチームと協力し、堅牢な開発・本番環境の維持、およびデータの整合性の確保。
• 社内イネーブルメント
  • エコシステム内のソフトウェアコンポーネントやデータベースを効果的に活用するためのドキュメント、ガイドライン、ツールの提供。

必要なスキル・経験

• ソフトウェアエンジニアまたは類似の職種での3年以上の経験。
• C++ または Python を用いたソフトウェアシステムの開発、運用、改善に精通。
• Unix/Linux環境でのソフトウェア構築および保守の経験。
• リレーショナル、時系列、またはNoSQLデータベース（PostgreSQL、MySQL、TimescaleDB、MongoDB、DynamoDBなど）の実務経験。
• SQLクエリ、スキーマ設計、クエリ最適化に関する経験、または習得への意欲。

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and self-driven Software Engineer -Databases to support the development and maintenance of several software projects, with emphasis in the database infrastructure that powers the Ground Systems of our satellite constellations. This role demands foundational knowledge in areas such as software development; software architecture; role of databases in software ecosystems; database performance tuning, automation, and operational reliability.

In this position, you will engage in the development, operation and improvement of in-house software that allows us to operate our satellites. The Satellite Operation Systems (SOS) is composed of components that range from real-time satellite communication, automatic tasking of satellites, data downlink, post-processing, and the databases that record and interconnect all the components. You will work closely with fellow ground system engineers, cloud team and other software teams to improve and streamline operations and implement best software practices. This is a hands-on, cross-functional position offering significant ownership and architectural influence.

Job Responsibilities

Database Operations
Administer, monitor, and optimize databases that support multiple satellite constellations, both existing and in development.

Automation and Monitoring
Develop tools and dashboards to automate operations, monitor performance, and proactively identify issues and weaknesses in the database infrastructure.

Testing and Validation
Collaborate with other Ground System Engineers to design and implement testing strategies for the databases, software components and integrated pipelines, ensuring reliability, performance and consistency across the Ground System ecosystem.

System Architecture
Contribute to the architectural design of data flows, schema structures, and interactions between the database and other components across the system.

Environment Management
Collaborate with the cloud infrastructure team to maintain robust development and production environments, as well as ensuring data integrity.

Internal Enablement
Provide documentation, guidelines, and tools to engage effectively with the software components and databases in the ecosystem.

Mandatory Requirements

• 3+ years of experience as a software engineer or in a similar role.
• Proficiency in developing, operating, and refining software systems using C++ or Python.
• Experience building and maintaining software on Unix/Linux environments.
• Experience with relational, time-series and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, TimescaleDB, MongoDB, DynamoDB).
• Experience or motivation to learn SQL querying, schema design and query optimization.
• Experience with some of the following: CI/CD pipelines, unit testing, observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Datadog, Prometheus).
• Capability to communicate technical information in English, in writing (documents, email, chat) and comfortably by voice.
• Good communication skills and a collaborative, proactive approach to problem-solving.

Favorable Skill set / Experiences

• Familiarity with at least one ORM framework (e.g., SQLAlchemy, Diesel, Entity) and data modeling tools.
• Experience with database reliability, predictability and automation.
• Experience with database performance monitoring and query optimization.
• Experience with software development life-cycle tools: Github, Github CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and cloud-based environments (AWS).
• Japanese language proficiency to communicate about Software development and technical topics.
