Position Summary

A strategic people leader for Moneytree's next chapter as an MUFG company. This is a player-coach role. You will build the people function (performance, compensation, succession, development, culture), lead the human side of our shift to an AI-native organization, and scale hiring, growing from a team of three staff running day-to-day operations under your direction.

We value diversity and have a high ratio of international employees. English and Japanese are our official internal languages, so comfort and ability in both is required.

We are looking for forward-thinking individuals with strong operational discipline. The ideal candidate can lead a team and also engage with our parent financial group.

Key Responsibilities

1. People strategy & AI-native transformation

  • Lead the people side of Moneytree's transition to an AI-native organization making AI fluency an expected, core capability.
  • Reorient learning and development around AI augmented work, and rethink role design, interview practices, and performance evaluation for a world where AI redefines what high performance looks like.
  • Deploy AI within the team operations itself to automate HR tasks and improve hiring and the employee experience.
  • Lead change management so adoption sticks: address capability gaps, resistance, and fear with clarity and care.
  • Maintain a fair and balanced performance evaluation system, calibrating company wide role levels and salary bands.

2. Talent acquisition & workforce planning

  • Scale hiring to support expansion into deeper, forward-deployed services for tier-1 financial institution partners.
  • Own workforce planning and headcount budgeting aligned to that growth.
  • Run a thorough and disciplined hiring process, and champion our employer brand.
  • Support succession planning for key roles: identify high-potential employees, develop the talent pipeline, and maintain a virtual bench internally and externally.

3. Performance, development & culture

  • Twice-yearly performance reviews and goal-setting processes.
  • Address company’s foundational training needs and organize a consolidated learning & development program across teams.
  • Employee engagement surveys and initiatives; close the loop on feedback from post-hire and bi-annual check-ins through to exit interviews.
  • Act as trusted contact for employee concerns: facilitating open communication, managing conflict resolution, and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Run periodic internal events, online and in person, including the Moneytree Summit 1-2 times a year.

4. People operations & compliance

  • Timely, accurate compensation, benefits, and payroll operations, managing the outsourced payroll vendor.
  • Onboarding, offboarding, and employment contracts across the employee lifecycle.
  • Japanese labor compliance: work rules (就業規則), the Article 36 agreement (36協定), social and labor insurance (社会保険・労働保険), year-end adjustment (年末調整), and stay current on labor law.
  • Chair of health & safety committee (安全衛生委員会) and mandatory stress checks.
  • Support visa applications for international staff.
  • Maintain and improve company rules and labor policies, with guidance and training to prevent harassment, discrimination, and inappropriate behaviour.
  • Headcount and labor-cost reporting and analysis, with actionable metrics for retention, engagement, and diversity.
  • Manage HR compliance audits, payroll vendors, and relationships with local government offices.

5. Team leadership & administration

  • Manage, lead, coach and grow a team of three. The General Administrator owns office management, facilities, supplier and vendor relationships, and general administrative operations.
  • Budget for company headcount and Team Ops activities.
  • Leverage new and existing software, increasingly AI-enabled, to streamline and automate processes.

Requirements

■ Must Have

  • 10+ years across all aspects of human resources, with 5+ years in a people-management role within HR. Track record of building, not only operating.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience designing performance, levelling, and compensation frameworks.
  • Extensive working knowledge of Japanese labor law and social insurance practices.
  • Experience supporting a multicultural, multilingual workforce.
  • Genuine curiosity about AI and a hands-on user, energized by leading change through ambiguity.
  • Well-organized, strong planner, detail-oriented, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High discretion and the maturity to handle sensitive matters responsibly.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Native-level Japanese (reading, writing, speaking) and business-level-plus English (reading, writing, speaking).

■ Nice to Have

  • Implementing, supporting, or leading initiatives for technology adoption and/or work process transformation.
  • Operating and reporting within group company context.
  • HR in a startup or fast-growing organization.

Terms & Conditions

  • Employment Type: Full-time (Permanent Employee)
  • Work Location: Head Office or Remote (Work from Home)
  • Salary:15 million to 18 million yen
    • Commensurate with experience and skills
