Role summary
・Lead and execute business development activities (in-licensing/out-licensing) and alliance management for prescription pharmaceutical business
・Manage opportunity identification, evaluation, negotiation, contracting, and alliance management to support Taisho’s strategic growth.
Key responsibilities
・Business Development
-Search and source licensing and collaboration opportunities (domestic and international).
-Conduct commercial and technical evaluation of in-licensing / out-licensing candidates.
-Lead negotiations process, define contract terms and deal structures.
-Draft and finalize license and collaboration agreements (Japanese and English).
・Alliance Management
-Build and maintain relationships with partner companies after contract signing.
-Coordinate cross-functional activities between partners and internal stakeholders (R&D, CMC, regulatory, QA, commercial).
-Monitor partner performance, manage deliverables, timelines, milestones, and risk mitigation.
-Lead governance processes (steering committees, reports, KPI tracking).
・Cross-functional coordination & governance
-Serve as primary internal contact for partner-related issues and escalations.
-Support compliance checks, contractual amendments, and dispute resolution efforts.
・Documentation & reporting
-Prepare management reports, deal analyses, and briefing materials for senior management.
-Maintain contract documentation and ensure accurate record-keeping.
・Continuous improvement
-Propose and implement process improvements to enhance deal flow, contract quality, and alliance outcomes.
Required qualifications (MUST)
・Minimum 5 years’ experience in business development or alliance management within the prescription pharmaceutical industry.
・Proven practical experience in preparing, negotiating, reviewing, and executing licensing and related agreements for development-stage or commercial products (Japanese and English).
・Business-level English skills sufficient for meetings, calls, emails, and contract negotiation.
・Strong communication skills for effective teamwork and cross-functional collaboration.
・High-level administrative and operational accuracy and speed.
・Master’s degree (or PhD preferred)
Preferred qualifications (WANT)
・Knowledge or experience across multiple technical/business areas (e.g., pharmacology, PK/PD, safety, CMC, clinical development, quality, marketing, legal, IP).
・Experience in people or project management.
・Professional qualifications related to legal or management fields (e.g., attorney, patent attorney, MBA).
・Experience working at/with overseas affiliates or living abroad and supporting local sourcing/negotiations.
