In this role, you will be responsible for working with our business partners and product teams to understand the requirements that drive the technology solutions we will deploy and analyze key requirements needed. You will engage in the testing cycles of those solutions to align and drive that the design meets the original set of expectations. You are part of a global team that is consistently looking at ways to enhance the experience for guests, from planning their trip to their in park visit, to their post return while driving the best experience all around.
As part of the Digital and Technology team, you will work in a global and multinational team atmosphere, with team members that come to work with us, from various countries. You will engage with not only team members but with multinational vendors that support our destinations and experiences across the globe. So be prepared, as our primary language to operate in is English, daily; however, having other languages, like Japanese is a plus, for local communications.
After joining the company, you will gain a basic understanding of the latest technology for our theme parks and overall in park ride solutions. Not to worry, we will work with you to refine your business system analysis skills. Your role will be responsible for reporting to management both in Japan and within the US. Regardless of your length of service, you will be involved in operations with other parks around the world and will be able to grow significantly.

JOB SUMMARY
The Technical Lead, Application Delivery & Strategy – Core Business Applications (CBA) / Resorts Operations is the technical expert responsible for leading engineering and implementation efforts across back-of-house technologies that maintain and operate Universal Studios Japan’s theme park. This role requires a unique combination of software package implementation expertise, custom-developed solutions, and hardware/firmware integration knowledge to ensure reliable delivery and operation of mission-critical systems.
Partnering with the Manager of Resorts Operations, this Technical Lead will oversee the delivery of back-of-house technologies supporting assets management, compliance, safety, security, facilities, and attraction maintenance. The role demands flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to quickly master new technologies while ensuring alignment with building operations, safety standards, and security requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Technical Leadership and Engineering Excellence
・Act as the technical authority across Resorts Operations systems, ensuring adherence to architecture standards and engineering best practices.
・Lead implementation of both software package applications and custom-developed solutions, ensuring reliable integration into USJ’s technology landscape.
・Provide expertise in embedded applications within hardware and coordinate across hardware, firmware, and software teams.
・Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and compliant with operational requirements.
2. Solution Delivery and Architecture Alignment
・Partner with the Manager of Resorts Operations to execute the technology roadmap for back-of-house systems.
・Oversee system integrations across applications, hardware, and infrastructure to support safety, security, compliance, and facilities management.
・Lead implementation of new technologies while ensuring interoperability with existing operational systems.
・Validate technical feasibility, identify risks, and ensure mitigation strategies are in place.
3. Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration
・Work closely with vendors, architects, and internal engineering teams to deliver operational systems.
・Collaborate with compliance, safety, and security stakeholders to ensure systems align with business and regulatory needs.
・Communicate technical designs and trade-offs clearly to business and operational stakeholders.
・Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and support teams.
4. Standards, Compliance, and Operational Readiness
・Ensure all Resorts Operations systems are engineered for maintainability and handover readiness to Application Services and Operations teams.
・Champion the adoption of DevOps, CI/CD, and testing automation standards.
・Align technology delivery with building operations, safety codes, and security requirements.
・Promote continuous improvement in stability, performance, and compliance of operational systems
・Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established USJ policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities (KSAs) required:
Technical Expertise
・Strong experience in software package implementations and custom application development.
・Understanding of ERP-related APIs, middleware, and reporting integrations with downstream systems (e.g., Technical Support/Work Order, Facilities Management, and IoT data feeds).
・Deep knowledge of EAM systems (IBM Maximo, Infor EAM, SAP PM, etc.) including configuration, workflow automation, and preventive maintenance scheduling or similar.
・Experience integrating field devices and sensors (IoT) for predictive maintenance and asset lifecycle monitoring.
・Technical expertise in safety, security, facilities management, or maintenance systems highly desirable.
・Experience working with compliance-driven environments (e.g., safety standards, building codes).
・Experience designing or supporting hybrid environments (cloud/on-prem) and knowledge of virtualization, database administration, and application hosting.
・Ability to oversee vendor-delivered technical services for L2/L3 support and ensure SLA adherence through structured incident, change, and release management.

・Demonstrated ability to lead technical delivery and mentor engineering teams.
・Strong communication skills, able to translate technical solutions into business terms.
・Strong stakeholder management — capable of aligning operations, engineering, and vendor partners toward delivery excellence.
・Ability to translate complex technical challenges into actionable business insights and strategic recommendations.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required (Computer Science, Engineering, HR/Finance Technology, or related fields). Advanced degree preferred
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Any relevant certifications related to the job is an advantage
EXPERIENCE
7+ year engineering or systems integration, with at least 5 years in a Technical Lead role. Experience in theme park operations, manufacturing, or facilities/safety-critical industries strongly preferred
