Company Overview

Yaqumo is a quantum computing startup founded on research originating from the Takahashi Laboratory at Kyoto University and the Omori Laboratory at the Institute for Molecular Science (IMS).

Our core technology is based on neutral-atom quantum computing, a promising architecture known for its scalability to large numbers of qubits. While neutral-atom systems offer significant advantages in scalability, challenges remain in areas such as fault tolerance and computational performance. Yaqumo combines the expertise of both research groups to address these challenges.

In 2025, the company secured approximately JPY 700 million in funding and was selected for a major NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) program. We are currently developing ytterbium-based quantum gates, control systems, and quantum error correction technologies, with the goal of delivering a prototype fault-tolerant quantum computer by FY2027.

Our long-term vision is to bring neutral-atom quantum computing into practical use and tackle societal challenges that are beyond the capabilities of conventional computing.

Job Summary

Yaqumo is a Kyoto University spin-out developing neutral-atom quantum computers. Toward a fault-tolerant quantum computer by 2030, our quantum experiment, optical design, and control software teams are each driving development forward.
In this role, you will work inside each team's development work, identify processes that AI can solve, use the latest AI to produce deliverables — design proposals, analysis results, and working code — in a short time, and embed them into the development process so that they take hold.
No quantum expertise is required. What we look for is the ability to build deliverables quickly with AI, integrate them into actual development, and bring them to a state where they keep running without you.

Responsibilities

・Embed with the quantum experiment, opto-mechanical design, and control software teams, observe their actual day-to-day work, and, taking team requests into account, identify on your own initiative the tasks where AI can deliver major time savings and decide which to tackle first.

・For each identified task, build a prototype with the latest AI models and coding agents, present it, and own the process through to validating its effectiveness on real data together with the researchers and designers.

・Integrate validated solutions into the actual development workflow, bring them to a state where they are maintained and improved without depending on you through documentation and handover of operations to each team, and roll them out across the company as reusable components and procedures.

Who We're Looking For

We expect candidates with experience in one of the following areas:

  • FDE / Applied AI at an AI company: You have worked on-site with customers at companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Palantir, taking projects from requirements definition through AI prototypes to production deployment.
  • AI implementation at an AI startup / SaaS company: You implement LLMs, RAG, AI agents, internal AI tools, etc. into products or business workflows.
  • AI / R&D DX for manufacturing or deep tech: You turn problems in technical settings such as R&D, design, experiments, and manufacturing into practical tools and automation using AI.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with non-software teams such as researchers and designers, and personally leading the work from problem identification through requirements definition, implementation, and deployment
  • Experience deploying to production and operating an LLM-powered tool that people other than yourself use continuously in their daily work (one-off PoCs or demos do not count)
  • Hands-on experience building LLM applications: prompt and agent design, tool/function calling, RAG, and quantitative evaluation of output quality
  • Experience developing production software in Python (including testing, code review, CI/CD, and documentation), using coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, etc.) as your primary means of development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work in both Japanese and English
  • Experience in collaborative projects with overseas engineers (design reviews, specification alignment, etc.)
  • Experience in collaborative projects with research institutions (launching PoCs, defining specifications, etc.)
  • Background in physics or quantum computing

Hiring Process

CV Review → First Interview → Second Interview → Final Interview

  • Depending on the position, candidates may be asked to complete a technical assignment after the first interview.
  • We place a strong emphasis on mutual understanding throughout the hiring process. Depending on the role and evaluation process, additional interviews, informal meetings with team members, or offer discussions may be arranged.
